Preliminary votes indicate that all of the eight treaties which emanated from the armaments '. conference will be rat ified by substantial majorities, but the, debates' have developed a deter mined opposition to some of them. There is given herewith a brief out line of each undertaking, in order that the reader may see for himself the scope of the treaties and judge of their influence on the future of the United States and of the world. 1. A treaty between the United States, the British Empire, France, Italy, and Japan, limiting naval arm maments. 1 .The future capital ship tonnage of those countries sha'l be United States 525,000; British Em. pire, 625,000; Japan, 315,000; France 175,000; and ptaly, 175,000. No such ship exceeding 35,000 tons shall be built Aircraft carrirs tonnage: United States, 135,000; British Em pire, 135,000; Japan, 81,000; France, 60,000; and Italy, 60,000.
